2011 2ND ANNUAL REEL INDEPENDENT FILM EXTRAVAGANZA
EVENT RECAP

The weekend of October 22-23, 2011 turned out to be an incredible event at THEARC in Washington, DC for the 2011 2nd Annual Reel Independent Film Extravaganza. Filmmakers and attendees traveled from around the world…Literally to attend the event and see an array of great independent films and documentaries. It was a true SUCCESS!

Friday night the filmmakers and 2011 RIFE committee had a Networking Mixer at 18th Amendment on Capitol Hill and enjoyed the intimate meet & greet.

Saturday kicked off the weekend of screenings with several short films, documentaries and features such as “Pro Wrestler”, “Easy Street” and “Linea Gialla:. “One Punch at a Time” a short documentary about 18 year old female boxer Asia Stevenson received support for the film and Asia attended the screening with her family and supporters. “Butterfly Crush” is a modern age love story set in the back drop of the music industry and filmmaker Alan Clay traveled from Australia|New Zealand for the screening of the film.

Saturdays events were Hosted by Cherie Moody and Marcellus “The Bassman” Shepard; throughout the day, several screenings were a hit, "One Punch at a Time," "Grounds for Resistance" and more. Attendees of the film “Question One” joined a Q&A following the film with filmmaker Joseph Fox. The WORLD PREMIERE of “All in the Game” had a great attendance with the cast, crew and associates from the Baltimore area and was runner up for the 2011 RIFE Audience Award.

Sunday began with a crowd of attendees for the day’s opening films and throughout the duration of the day. The WORLD PREMIERE of “End of Occupation” received great reviews and won the 2011 RIFE Audience Award.

The 2011 RIFE Awards Finale red carpet event was hosted by Tyler Perry’s ‘House of Payne’ Denyce Lawton and presenters included Cherie Moody, Marcellus “The Bassman” Shepard, Miss Maryland International 2012 Chardia Murray, Comedian Lamont “Lazee” King, Go Go Supergroup Lipstick & Congas, Miss International 2011 Ciji Dodds and Carl Mann Johnson.

The 2011 RIFE DMV Reel Awards were presented for its first year and recipients included the 2011 DMV Reel Community Award winner Tony Lewis Jr, 2011 DMV Reel ICON Award winner Councilmember Marion Barry and 2011 DMV Reel Filmmaker Award winner Kirk Frasier. These award winners deserved to be honored and recognized for their contribution to the film world and our communities.

Following the 2011 RIFE Awards Finale the closing films were screened. “Duty,” “Sons of Life” by Tony Lewis, Jr and “Mayor for Life” by Kirk Frasier concluded the weekend of a great festival.
